The Hollywood High School Band has been around for nearly one hundred years; records date back the band as long as 1914! The band has gone through many changes over the years: first, it was the ROTC Band; then, the Crimson Corps; and finally, the Sheik Marching Band!
The Hollywood High School Band is a great organization which has played at numerous places around the nation. During the summer of 2003, the band traveled to Tallahassee, Florida. In addition, the band has performed for numerous celebrities: Jay Leno, Rodney Dangerfield, Bob Saget, Famous Amos, Jack Black, and many more. The band has also appeared in many television shows such as Crook and Chase, Wings, and most recently Malcolm in the Middle.
Here at Hollywood High School, the band has many traditions; among many of our traditions is performing for the world famous Hollywood Christmas Parade and Hollywood Bowl. The band performs yearly at the Hollywood Christmas Parade on the Sunday of Thanksgiving week; on the last Monday of June, the band performs at the Hollywood Bowl!
Of course, like in any other band, our band has had many drum majors. We have had two All-City Drum Majors (that we know of) who (along with others) leaded the Los Angeles Unified All-District Honor Band at the Tournament of Roses Parade.
The Sheik Band also has a scholarship award for two well deserving seniors of the band. The scholarship award was established in memory of Boss Radio Legend, "The Reel Don Steel".
